Central Area (Map & Chat) Deep Dive

The center of your GriidAi screen is where the magic happens. This is the core of the experience, seamlessly blending high-performance geographic visualization with powerful, conversational AI.

The Main Map View

The largest section of your screen is dedicated to the interactive map. This is a high-performance rendering engine designed to handle massive datasets smoothly.

• Visualizing Your Data:
• Vector Rendering: Shapefiles, GeoJSONs, and other vector datasets will be drawn as precise points, lines, or polygons directly over the base map.
• Raster Rendering: GeoTIFFs and satellite imagery will seamlessly drape over the terrain.
• Instant Updates: As you ask the AI to filter or manipulate data (e.g., 'Show me only buildings larger than 5,000 sq ft'), the map will update instantly to reflect those changes visually.
• Navigating the Map:
• Panning: Click anywhere on the map, hold down your left mouse button, and drag to move your view around the globe.
• Zooming: Use your mouse's scroll wheel to quickly zoom in and out. Scroll forward to zoom in for street-level detail, and scroll backward to view regional trends.
• On-Screen Controls: If you prefer not to use a mouse wheel, look for the standard + and - zoom control buttons overlaying the map to adjust your view precisely.
• Change Basemap: Users can change the base map to Streets, Satellite, or No Base Map at any time based on their preference.

The Chat Tab

Overlaying the map (or situated just adjacent to it) is the primary Chat Tab. This is your direct, conversational interface with the GriidAi spatial assistant.

• Communicating with the AI:
• The Text Input Box: Locate the text box at the very bottom of the Chat Tab. This is where you enter your commands.
• Asking Questions: You can ask the AI natural language questions about the data you uploaded (e.g., 'What is the total area of the polygons in this layer?' or 'How many points intersect with this boundary?').
• Requesting Spatial Operations: You can instruct the AI to perform complex GIS tasks. Try typing commands like: 'Buffer the river layer by 500 meters.', 'Intersect the flood zones with the building footprints.', or 'Filter the dataset to only show points within the city limits.'
• Tracking Your History & Results:
• Scrollable History: As you work, your previous prompts and the AI's responses scroll upwards. You can always scroll back up to review a previous step in your analysis.
• Rich Responses: The AI does more than just manipulate the map. Depending on your prompt, it will provide detailed text summaries, generate charts, or output tabular data directly within the chat interface, giving you immediate context for what you are seeing on the map.
